Tony Rock's Response to Will Smith's Incident
Approximately eight days after Will Smith slapped Chris Rock during the Oscars, the fallout continues. Tony Rock, Chris Rock's brother and a comedian, publicly confronted Smith during a performance in Raleigh, North Carolina. In a video released by The Shade Room on April 1, 2022, Tony delivered a series of insults and threats directed at Will Smith, stating, "If you think you're going to come up on this stage, this isn't the Oscars." He referenced the incident, questioning Smith's motives for hitting his brother, suggesting it was due to Jada Pinkett Smith's reaction to Chris's joke about her alopecia. Tony warned, "If you bring your butt over here, you're not nominated for anything but these damn hands. We're going to smash you for the rest of the year." Following the Oscars on March 27, where Will Smith slapped Chris Rock over a joke about Jada, Chris has not publicly commented on the altercation. Meanwhile, the Academy accepted Smith's resignation and plans to discuss conduct codes on April 18, 2022.
